Between mountains, the river Isar and snowy meadows, New Year's Eve in the Tölzer Land is quieter and cosier than in the city – yet there is plenty to do. Here are our ideas for 31 December 2026: from fireworks by the Isar in Bad Tölz to night sledging and an evening in a warm wooden house at the Schlossquelle.

Bad Tölz is the nearest town for a classic New Year's Eve, about 20 minutes by car. In recent years the town's programme included fireworks at midnight on the Isar promenade and New Year's Eve events at the Kurhaus, such as an evening Schlager gala and a party from 9 pm. The 2026 programme has not been published yet – check with the Bad Tölz tourist information once it is out.
If you would rather spend the last day of the year outdoors, try a winter walk up the Blomberg, a stroll along the Isar or – with snow – a ski day at the Brauneck (see Brauneck ski season 2026/27). A special treat between Christmas and New Year is night sledging on the Blomberg: in winter the Blombergbahn opens its floodlit natural toboggan run on selected evenings, in January 2026 for example on Saturdays from 7 to 10 pm. Whether and when it runs in winter 2026/27 depends on the snow.
Many guests come between Christmas and New Year for the peace and quiet. In the wooden chalet four people gather round the big dining table while children play on the gallery; couples enjoy the bright apartment with its 40 m² terrace. Both have fully equipped kitchens – perfect for raclette, fondue or a long festive dinner. Shops close early on 31 December, so do your shopping the day before. Please be considerate of neighbours, animals and nature with fireworks. Dogs are very welcome; a quiet spot indoors helps many get through the night.
On 1 January 2027 the New Year ski jumping of the Four Hills Tournament takes place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen – dates, tickets and travel in our post New Year ski jumping Garmisch 2027. For something quieter, walk the Path of History in Königsdorf right on the doorstep or drive to Lake Walchensee and Lake Kochel.
