The quiet southern end of Lake Starnberg, the chain of the Osterseen lakes and a museum right on the shore – ideal half-day or full-day trips from Königsdorf.
Lake Starnberg is one of Bavaria's best-known lakes. While the northern shore near Munich gets busy on fine days, the southern end is far more relaxed – and that is exactly where you'll be in about 20 minutes from our holiday home in Königsdorf.
Seeshaupt lies at the southern tip of the lake. Walk along the promenade, stop at a beer garden or hop on a boat: the Bavarian lake shipping company calls at Seeshaupt. Please check the current timetable – outside the season, services are limited.
In Bernried on the western shore stands the Buchheim Museum – a striking building right on the water with a large collection of Expressionist art, folk art and curiosities from around the world. The surrounding park invites you to stroll along the shore.
South of Seeshaupt, the Osterseen lakes line up one after another – a chain of small, clear lakes in a landscape of moors and hills. Well-signposted circular paths follow the shores, flat and family-friendly. In summer there are several swimming spots.
Around the lake there are many public swimming spots and lawns. The water warms up nicely in high summer – if you prefer it cooler, head for Lake Walchensee. More lakes in our guide Lakes of Upper Bavaria.
