1. Osterseen loop

The Osterseen lakes near Iffeldorf are a chain of small lakes in a nature reserve. The paths are flat, well signposted and can be walked at any length – perfect for families, dogs on a lead and your first day of holiday. More lake tips: Lakes of Upper Bavaria.

2. Kirchsee and Reutberg Abbey

The Kirchsee near Sachsenkam is a moorland lake with dark, soft water. A circular path leads through moor and meadows, and in summer it's lovely for a swim. Just a short walk away, Reutberg Abbey sits enthroned with a view of the Alps.

3. Blomberg near Bad Tölz

Bad Tölz's local mountain is perfect for a relaxed half-day hike: about two hours on foot to the Blomberghaus, or the easy way by chairlift. Children love the summer toboggan run at the valley station.

4. Brauneck in Lenggries

A ski area in winter, a hiking mountain in summer: the Brauneck cable car takes you up to panoramic paths and mountain huts. More about winter at the Brauneck and other ski areas in our ski guide.

5. Jochberg from the Kesselberg

The Jochberg is probably the region's most popular viewpoint: in about 1.5 to 2 hours you climb from the Kesselberg pass and look down on Lake Walchensee and Lake Kochel at the same time. Start early at weekends – parking at the Kesselberg is limited.

6. Herzogstand

From the Herzogstand the view reaches far across the Alpine foothills. The Herzogstand cable car is getting a new valley station and, as things stand, is not expected to run again until Whitsun 2027. The summit can still be reached on foot, for example from the Kesselberg via the Herzogstandhaus – a longer hike for experienced walkers.

7. Benediktenwand – queen of the Isarwinkel

At 1,801 metres, the Benediktenwand is the most striking peak between the Isar and the Loisach – on a clear day you can see its long rock face from Königsdorf. The standard route starts in Benediktbeuern and leads through the Lainbach valley to the Tutzinger Hütte (approx. 2 to 2.5 hours). From there it's about another 1.5 hours to the summit; you need to be sure-footed. A large colony of ibex lives on the mountain – don't forget your camera. For a more relaxed tour, stay overnight at the Tutzinger Hütte; fit hikers can also reach the summit from the Brauneck along the ridge.

Hiking with a dog? Dogs are welcome in both our holiday homes. In nature reserves such as the Osterseen, dogs must be kept on a lead. More tips: Holidays with your dog in the Tölzer Land.
